Camphor tree from Miyazaki

Camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora)

The camphor tree has a unique scent, and its name is said to come from the Japanese for "smelly tree".
Since its leaves and smoke have also long been used to repel insects, a theory also exists that its name comes from the Japanese for "medicine tree".
Since it is also widely used in furniture and for Buddhist statues, the tree has a long connection with Japanese people.
