While traveling throughout Japan, we were reminded of the rich nature of each local region supported by diverse terrains, climates and cultures. At the same time, I felt very strongly the disciplined actions of producers for the sake of sustainable primary production and their continuous effort and pride in making high-quality agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

We also learned the realities of changes in the global environment and that those working in primary industry face various regional issues. To give an example, Japan’s decreasing birthrate and aging population have led to a decline in those workers and an increase in the number of fields and rice paddies that have been abandoned.

We want to contribute to resolving these issues and see our role in doing that as enhancing the sustainability of Japan’s primary industry by using flavor and fragrance to share Japan’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products, and their unique appeal, with as many people as possible.

It goes without saying that in our business activities we take into consideration our stakeholders, including the environment, society and employees. Particularly regarding measures to curb climate change, we are actively engaged through efforts such as implementing energy-conservation measures and shifting to energy sources with low environmental impact.

To realize our aims, we have formulated the “Ogawa Sustainability Plan 2050.”
